The five-minute self-check

How do your books actually look?

“The owner is not careless. The owner is busy doing the work that actually brings in the money, and the paperwork quietly loses the race.”

Six checks, five minutes, your own records. Answer honestly — nobody sees the answers but you — and read where your books stand in plain language.

Your tally

Check 1 of 6 · The balance test

Compare last month's ending bank balance to the balance in your bookkeeping software.

Your answers stay on this page. Nothing is sent anywhere.

  1. The balance test. Compare last month's ending bank balance to the balance in your bookkeeping software.
  2. The reconciliation count. How long has it been since any account was fully reconciled? Three or more means the backlog is structural, not a bad week.
  3. The receivables list. Can you pull up a list of who owes you money? If the list lives only in your head, that is the finding.
  4. The filings test. Was your last sales tax or estimated payment filed on time — from real numbers, not a guess?
  5. The receipt match. Pick a purchase from last quarter. Can you match it to a record?
  6. The handover test. Would you hand these records to a tax preparer tomorrow without embarrassment? Your gut answer is the most honest audit available.

Two or more checks bad? Your books need attention this quarter, not someday. Catch-Up & Cleanup brings the history current; Monthly Bookkeeping keeps it there. The conversation usually takes one call: (916) 750-1971.

Catch-up & monthly

Two paths — in that order.

Most owners who call are behind, or tired of almost catching up. Here is how it works here.

A handshake across Marina's desk in her Citrus Heights office

Path A — first, if you’re behind

Catch-Up & Cleanup

Months or years behind? We reconcile, correct, and bring your books fully up to date — we’ve caught up clients who were a year or more behind, working from bank statements and receipts.

Path B — then, to stay current

Monthly Bookkeeping

Once you’re current, monthly bookkeeping keeps you there: every transaction categorized and reconciled, one flat monthly rate, reports on your desk every month.

Straight answers

Two things I don’t do — so you know exactly what you’re getting.

We don’t prepare income tax returns.

We get your books tax-ready for your tax preparer — clean, reconciled, and ready to hand over. When your preparer gets records like these, tax time stops being an excavation.

We don’t process payroll.

We record the payroll entries from your provider, so your books stay accurate — your provider runs the payroll, we make sure it lands in your books correctly.
